If you haven’t been to my About Me page yet, let me introduce myself – I’m Sam Rush and I have been a personal trainer for over a decade. I absolutely love what I do, it is truly my passion. In the time I have been a personal trainer, I have learned that there is a vast space to explore in terms of fitness. It’s not just about working out, but discovering what works for you. Through this blog, I want to share the multitude of aspects of wellness that may help you be the healthiest, best, most amazing version of yourself. Life can try to get in the way of our health- it gets hard, demanding, stressful and busy – staying healthy can become a challenge. The desire to achieve a fitness Mindset may not always be possible, especially when there are just so many options out there. It’s easy to get lost in the sauce, so to speak.

To be honest with you, even this baddass personal trainer has been struggling with working out, being self-disciplined, and setting new goals lately. It’s a lot of energy, effort, and it’s time consuming. We all have days where fun turns into… this is fun?!

I’m here to be your support system, offer up some tested techniques, ideas, and those little boosts of what scientists call “validation support” to keep you motivated. This is the feeling that you have someone going through the same things you are, that’s me, deep in shit, facing life in all it’s beautiful mess, right there with you. In fact, there are various examples and studies that show that when we do things together, we can run that extra mile, push a little harder on our workout, and maybe give ourselves a break when we eat that cupcake… or two. Together, we can face our wellness challenges, as effortlessly and gracefully as possible.

On that note, one of the “missing links” (at the moment…) in this website is FUN. No matter what you are doing, whether it’s weight training, Zumba, Weight Watchers, or training for a marathon, pushing past your challenges and achieving your goals is that much more fulfilling when you have… fun. Having fun is essential to not just every single workout or nutrition plan, it’s essential for long-lasting wellness success! Having fun helps you overcome fears (am I doing this right?), staying motivated (yes you can!), and finding out what works for you.

To be honest with you, even this baddass personal trainer has been struggling with working out, being self-disciplined, and setting new goals lately. It’s a lot of energy, effort, and it’s time consuming. We all have days where fun turns into… this is fun?! Even though I maintain a regular fitness regime, I get exhausted, and this impacts how I feel about myself and how I stay motivated. I feel like going through life and the struggles that go with it, only makes me a better and more well-rounded personal trainer. When I find the struggle to be really real, fun is found in the music. Music gets me out of my funk and helps me in a number of ways. And if I turn it up loud enough, my sailor mouth is that much harder to hear (a bonus when you are working out in the garage and don’t want the neighbors to panic, or if you have little ones at home). A HuffPost Article you can read here mentions all the fabulous reasons for why you should incorporate music into your fitness journey, but for me, it’s a great distraction to all the “things” in life that keep me from being my best self. It’s a good kind of distraction….. and not just for practicing my awesome dance moves (try not to be jealous).

So for the times that you need a little extra Sam-inspired fun in your workout, here is my current, favorite playlist to keep you going when I can’t be there to “motivate” you to do those 10 extra push-ups myself (because we both know you can with a little support, and maybe a few “extra” cuss words sprinkled in there….for “fun”).

How do you find the fun? Do you have any favorite songs that keep you motivated through those especially hard morning workouts (and keep you distracted from the argument you got into with your spouse 😫 right before work or your kid’s pissy attitude about their breakfast 🙄)?
